Downing Street is considering introducing digital ID cards, dubbed "BritCards," for all UK adults to combat illegal immigration. These smartphone-based cards would verify the right to live and work in the UK and access government services, potentially reducing welfare fraud. Implementing the system would cost approximately £400 million to build and £10 million annually to maintain as a free app.
