Unofficial Command-Line Tool Removes Apple Intelligence From MacOS 27

macOS Sonoma does not offer a direct setting to disable Apple Intelligence. This lack of a toggle makes it difficult for users who wish to opt out of AI features. Furthermore, the AI models require significant disk space, even if unused. Developer Om Lahore created a command-line tool called RemoveMacAI to address this. This tool allows users to disable Apple Intelligence features and removes the associated models. The models are estimated to take up at least 12GB but can exceed 30GB. RemoveMacAI disables Siri, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, the ChatGPT extension, and summarization features. Dictation remains functional as it is a separate setting. The tool is designed to be reversible and works without disabling System Integrity Protection. The absence of a built-in disabling option is frustrating for users with limited storage. It also prevents institutional groups with AI restrictions from adopting Macs running macOS Sonoma.
