Updates to age ratings for the Republic of Korea
Apple generates age ratings for apps based on the answers provided in the age rating questionnaire in App Store Connect. The age ratings are used to comply with local regulatory requirements, particularly for apps in the Games and Entertainment categories distributed on the App Store in Korea. Apple is making two changes to age ratings in the Republic of Korea, with one change taking effect immediately and the other later this year. The first change allows developers to override their app's existing age rating for the App Store in Korea if they have received an official rating from the Game Rating and Administration Committee. To override the age rating, developers need to provide their GRAC Rating Classification Number with their app's next version submission. The override option is available for region-specific ratings, including All, 12+, 15+, and 19+. The second change will take effect in October 2026 and involves updating the age rating for two content descriptors from All to 12+ for the App Store in Korea. The two content descriptors that will be updated are infrequent profanity and crude humor, and infrequent mature or suggestive themes. These changes aim to ensure that apps are rated accurately and in compliance with local regulations in Korea. By making these changes, Apple is working to provide a more accurate and consistent age rating system for apps distributed on the App Store in Korea.
