Verizon's latest ad defies CRT physics

Verizon's new commercial is widely considered to be terrible. The ad aims to attract customers from AT&T and T-Mobile by offering better deals. A woman in the commercial brings a 27-inch CRT television to a store for a trade-in. She casually hands the heavy television to a sales associate, highlighting a significant disconnect with reality. CRT televisions are notoriously heavy, often weighing around 75 pounds. The commercial implies a lack of awareness regarding the weight of these older sets. Furthermore, no major retailer would accept a CRT TV as a trade-in. Retro gamers highly value CRTs, making them collectible items that can fetch a good price online. The woman in the ad leaves without the CRT after being denied a better deal. Her statement that the store isn't as "cool as Verizon" is seen as a nonsensical and ineffective tagline. The commercial fails to acknowledge the value and desirability of CRT televisions to a specific audience.
