Neural mechanisms underlying spatial representational stability are not fully understood. Here authors used voltage imaging in the mouse hippocampus to reveal the intracellular dynamics underlying spatial coding in excitatory and inhibitory neurons, and to show how these neurons balance stability and plasticity across time and contexts.
