Wegovy Now Approved for Treatment of Severe Liver Disease
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved an injectable semaglutide treatment for adults with a form of fatty liver disease called metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH) who have moderate to advanced liver fibrosis but not cirrhosis. According to an FDA press release announcing the decision, MASH affects 6% of US adults and can lead to advanced liver scarring, liver cancer, or the need for a liver transplant.
