What's new in Android for Cars: Unifying platforms and unlocking premium experiences
Android for Cars is experiencing significant growth, and Google is introducing updates to enrich in-car experiences for both drivers and developers. New features and templates in the Car App Library enable developers to build once and reach users across various infotainment systems. Car App Library versions 1.8.0-beta01 and 1.9.0-alpha01 are now available, offering more flexibility and components. Developers can create customized media apps for Android Automotive OS using templates, and test them with updated emulator images. Version 1.9.0-alpha brings new features for more expressive experiences, including expanded headers and spotlight sections. Developers can now utilize an adaptive mini-player and new component types for media apps. Adaptive video apps will soon enable parked users to watch video on Android Auto, with integration requiring minimal effort. Mobile widgets will also be available on Android Auto, providing new ways to engage users. Future updates will offer continuous user experiences, new conversational templates, and improved app branding. Google Maps SDK support will also be available for map-based content in POI and Weather apps. Developers are encouraged to stay updated and start building with the latest tools.
