WhatsApp Beta Adds Green Dot to Show Who's Online
WhatsApp is testing a new feature that visually indicates when a contact is online. This indicator appears as a small green circle around a contact's profile photo. The green circle will be visible when the contact is active within the app. It will disappear once they become inactive, with real-time updates. This feature was initially tested on Android and is now being rolled out to WhatsApp's iPhone app via TestFlight. Currently, the green dot is only visible on the chat info screen. It does not yet appear in the main chat list or individual conversation views. This new indicator respects existing privacy settings; if a user hides their online status, the green dot will not be displayed for them. The feature is accessible to some users on the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS. A wider beta release is anticipated soon, but a public release date for the stable version is not yet announced.
