When did "Shut Down" start meaning "Install updates for 45 minutes"?
I have been increasingly frustrated by how clicking “Shut Down” on my Windows PC no longer seems to mean what it says, because instead of powering off promptly, the computer sometimes displays update messages and spends another 30 to 45 minutes installing things I never agreed to install at that moment. This is especially inconvenient when I am finished working late or need to pack up my laptop quickly, and I would like to understand why Windows combines shutdown with lengthy updates, whether there is a way to prevent unexpected delays, and how to manage updates without risking important security fixes or interrupting essential work.
