Who is Alexandr Wang? Scale AI’s young billionaire CEO will head Meta’s new ‘superintelligence’ lab

Meta has hired Alexandr Wang, the CEO and founder of Scale AI, to lead its new artificial intelligence research lab. The lab will focus on developing AI "superintelligence" and is part of Meta's reorganization of its AI efforts. Meta is also in talks to invest over $10 billion in the company. Scale AI provides high-quality training data for AI applications to tech companies including Open AI, Google, Microsoft, and Meta. The company expects revenue to more than double to $2 billion this year. Scale AI is working with governments in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, and has signed deals with Qatar and the U.S. Defense Department. Alexandr Wang founded Scale AI in 2016 at age 19 and became the world's youngest self-made billionaire at age 25. Wang owns 15% of Scale AI, making his net worth over $2 billion. Meta plans to invest between $60 billion and $65 billion in capital expenditures this year to build out its AI infrastructure. The company is also building a large data center to power its AI offerings.
