The Work IQ API is now in public preview, offering developers programmatic access to Microsoft 365 Copilot's intelligence. This allows creation of agents and apps that leverage Copilot's grounding and context without directly handling raw data or permissions. The preview offers three access formats: Agent-to-Agent (A2A) for agent collaboration, Model Context Protocol (MCP) for developer tools, and REST for app integrations. Work IQ continuously builds context from various organizational data sources, creating a unified foundation with built-in security. Developers benefit from no raw data wiring, reduced orchestration overhead, and automatic inheritance of security and governance. The new A2A protocol enables custom agents to act as peers with Copilot intelligence, delegating tasks and receiving grounded responses. MCP allows MCP-compliant agents to directly access organizational context as tools and resources from their IDE or CLI. REST will provide standard request/response access for applications, and a remote MCP server will also become available. Work IQ ensures user and tenant permissions, conditional access, and sensitivity labels are automatically enforced. Future plans include more M365 agent access, a remote MCP server, and deeper platform integrations. Developers can find support through provided community channels and GitHub resources.
