Xiaomi's new open source, agentic AI coding harness MiMo Code beats Claude Code at ultra-long, 200+ step tasks

Xiaomi's MiMo AI team has open-sourced MiMo Code V0.1.0, a terminal-native AI coding assistant. The company claims it outperforms Anthropic's Claude Code on long-horizon, multi-step coding tasks. MiMo Code is available on GitHub under an MIT license and installs easily via a terminal command or npm. It is built upon the OpenCode agent, enhanced with Xiaomi's own memory architecture and workflow modes. A significant innovation is its cross-session memory system, utilizing SQLite FTS5, across four layers to combat AI coding agent amnesia. This system employs an independent "checkpoint-writer" subagent to maintain continuity during long tasks. The tool also features self-improvement mechanisms like a periodic session review and a function to automate repeated workflows. Xiaomi reports benchmark performance improvements attributed to the MiMo Code harness itself, not just the underlying model. The assistant integrates directly into developers' existing workflows, offering features like a compose mode for autonomous development cycles and hands-free voice control. Additionally, MiMo Code provides free, limited-time access to Xiaomi's multimodal MiMo-V2.5 model with a million-token context window and supports third-party backends.
