Zelensky Touts Successful Test Of 'Flamingo', Homegrown Cruise Missile Which Can Hit Moscow

In August, Ukrainian President Zelensky declared Ukraine's capability to conduct long-range strikes on Russian territory without US permission, highlighting the development of their own missiles. Zelensky has now announced a successful test of the Flamingo cruise missile, capable of hitting targets up to 3,000 km away. Ukrainian media suggests it can carry a substantial warhead, though potentially with less accuracy than some Western counterparts. The Flamingo, which is claimed to have already been used in combat, is slated for mass production with a significant stockpile expected by mid-2026. This missile serves as a replacement for the Kh-55 cruise missiles previously given up by Ukraine. The Flamingo's range places Moscow within striking distance, prompting concerns about potential escalation. The Russian military has until now refrained from targeting key buildings in Kyiv, but this could change. The White House is trying to ease the conflict, but with Trump imposing new sanctions, neither side appears willing to negotiate. Russia's battlefield advantage suggests Putin is unlikely to compromise on his objectives.
