Canadian and U.S. authorities have dismantled a sophisticated drug trafficking ring that exploited the commercial transportation sector. Operation Project Bay, initiated by Windsor Police, involved a collaboration of Canadian and U.S. law enforcement agencies, including the Canada Border Services Agency and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations. The investigation revealed a broker-style operation that used established transportation connections to move illegal drugs across the border. Drivers knowingly transported these illicit substances within legitimate supply chains. During extensive searches, authorities seized nearly 1.7 metric tons of illegal drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, and opium, with an estimated street value exceeding $139 million. In addition to the drugs, 17 firearms, ammunition, and other weapons were confiscated. Investigators also recovered significant amounts of cash, jewelry, and electronic devices. Twenty-one individuals have been charged with 104 offenses under Canadian law. Law enforcement officials highlighted the importance of interagency cooperation in disrupting the flow of harmful substances and removing profits from criminal enterprises. The investigation remains active, with authorities continuing to explore the full scope and origins of the network.
