A multistate outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts has sickened dozens of people and led to hospitalizations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration are investigating the outbreak. Alfalfa sprouts from Everything Sprouts are believed to be the source, potentially contaminated with E. coli and Salmonella. Consequently, multiple alfalfa sprout products from Everything Sprouts and Calco brands have been recalled. These recalled products, including pure alfalfa sprouts and sprout mixes, were distributed in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Illnesses have been reported in 15 states, with Minnesota and Wisconsin having the highest number of cases. Fifty-five individuals have become ill, with 46 infected by E. coli and 7 by Salmonella. Two individuals contracted both pathogens, and four required hospitalization. Symptoms of E. coli include diarrhea, cramps, vomiting, and fever, while Salmonella symptoms encompass diarrhea, cramps, headache, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Consumers are advised not to consume recalled products and to clean contaminated surfaces thoroughly.
