A sweeping crypto bill goes to a vote soon in the Senate. It could mark a watershed moment for the industry
President Donald Trump has agreed to ethics provisions for a sweeping cryptocurrency bill in the Senate. He consented to a measure barring him and his wife from issuing meme coins. Another concession involved a tougher ethics proposal demanded by key senators. The bill’s fate now hinges on whether these sign-offs satisfy legislative requirements. This vote could solidify crypto's legitimacy or spur increased industry campaign spending. Senators Lummis and Moreno previously met with Trump, stressing the need for conflict-of-interest restrictions. A proposal was presented to bar all federally elected officials and judges from issuing digital assets. Further negotiations led to a requirement for the president to place crypto holdings in a blind trust and divest them. The White House initially expressed concerns about empowering state attorneys general to enforce the law. However, Trump ultimately agreed to give them a significant role in enforcement, a critical demand for Democrats.
