A welcome recovery milestone for Pope Leo after cancer surgery
Pope Leo XIV has been discharged from the hospital following surgery to remove a cancerous nodule from his lung. The surgery successfully removed the lower lobe of his right lung. His discharge is significant as it allows him to proceed with his busy upcoming travel itinerary. It also helps to ease concerns about a potential leadership void within the Vatican. Doctors have confirmed the Pope is fit for discharge based on his current condition and recent medical tests. The Vatican had previously announced the planned surgery on October 11th. Following the operation, reports indicated the Pope was recovering well, walking, eating normally, and showing normal test results. Lung adenocarcinoma, the type of cancer involved, has high survival rates when detected early. The Pope's hospitalization had prompted prayers and well wishes from Catholics globally. Some groups, like those in Chicago, even prepared care packages for him. It remains unclear if further medical treatment will be necessary.
