Gemini in Google Drive's side panel now supports image analysis, a significant enhancement to its previous text-only capabilities. Users can ask Gemini to summarize images, extract text, or even generate stories based on them. For example, Gemini can now process receipts and invoices by extracting their information into a table. This new functionality is currently available only in English. It works best with scanned documents, contracts, receipts, invoices, and images containing substantial amounts of text. To use this feature, users need to have smart features and personalization enabled in their Workspace settings. Admins can manage these settings through the Admin console. End users can access Gemini by double-clicking an image in Drive and selecting the "Ask Gemini" option. This feature will begin rolling out on August 25, 2025, for Rapid Release domains and September 9, 2025, for Scheduled Release domains. It is available to specific Google Workspace editions, including Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise Standard and Plus, and those with Gemini Education add-ons. Google One AI Premium subscribers also have access, along with previous purchasers of Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons.
