Record presentations in Google Slides with Google Vids

Allowlisted Domains API now generally available

Granular space creation restrictions now available in Google Chat

Google Chat is introducing a new admin setting to restrict space creation for specific users or groups. Previously, chat restrictions were an all-or-nothing toggle. The new feature offers more granular control with three restriction levels. Administrators can now choose to restrict only space creation, allowing 1:1 and group direct messages to still be created. Introducing Ask Gemini in Chat: your new partner in productivity

Starting August 26, 2026, Google Chat will integrate Gemini, a powerful AI assistant, into its real-time collaboration features. This new functionality, called Ask Gemini in Chat, will act as a unified command line for work within Workspace. Ask Gemini will help users quickly find information across Gmail, Drive, and Calendar, and even draft content like critical updates or generate images directly within conversations. It aims to reduce the time spent switching between applications by allowing users to manage meetings and tasks without leaving Chat. Conversations can be organized into sessions for revisiting specific topics. This new Ask Gemini feature replaces the Gemini side panel in Chat, meaning the side panel will be removed. Gems will remain accessible in side panels of other Workspace apps, but not in the Chat side panel. Conversation history from the previous Gemini side panel will not migrate, though admins can export it. This update initially applies only to users with English as their Google account language. Admins will need to have Gemini in Workspace and Workspace Intelligence enabled for Ask Gemini to be available by default. End users must be enrolled in Workspace Smart Features to access these capabilities. Promotional access with higher limits will be available until October 1, 2026, after which standard usage limits will apply. This feature will be available for Business Standard and Plus, and Enterprise Standard and Plus editions, along with Education Add-ons.

Elevate your Google Meet experience for shared meeting spaces with Room Display mode

Users can expand this view to full screen. Simultaneously, the Personal View on the laptop screen acts as a private control center. This view includes meeting controls, peripheral selections, participant lists, chat, and the "Ask Gemini" panel. It also shows the active presentation with speaker notes, allowing for private management of the meeting.This feature aims to make running meetings on shared displays more seamless and professional, especially in hybrid work environments. It requires a Chromium-based browser with Window Management permissions enabled. Room Display mode will be the default joining option when a laptop is connected to an extended external display. Users can provide feedback directly through the Personal View interface. The feature will gradually roll out starting August 19, 2026, and is available across various Google Meet editions.

Managing unsolicited event invitations with user blocking in Google Calendar

Google Calendar now offers protection against spam and unwanted invitations through a new blocking feature. Blocking a user automatically removes current events from them and prevents future invitations. This action adds the user to an account-wide blocklist, extending the block across all supported Google products. Conversely, blocking someone in another Google product will also block their Calendar invitations. The feature is specifically for blocking Google account users. Use Gemini to help manage Google Workspace for your organization

Make a copy of a notebook in Gemini Notebook

Gemini Notebook users can now copy entire notebooks, including all associated sources and studio items, if they have copy permission. This feature enables users to build upon shared work, like a student copying a teacher's notebook to add personal notes and generate study tools. Similarly, a coworker can duplicate a foundational notebook and customize it for a specific project by adding relevant sources. When a notebook is copied, its sources and studio content are transferred to the new user's library. Drive-based sources are only included if the copying user has access and permission to the original Google Drive file. Studio content, such as Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Study Guides, Flashcards, Quizzes, Slide Decks, artifact generation prompts, and custom chat configurations, are all copied. However, personal chat history and user-generated notes are not transferred. Importantly, copied notebooks do not sync with the original; subsequent updates by the original owner will not affect the copied version. There is no admin control for this feature, but admins can manage Gemini Notebook access for users. End users, as notebook owners, can decide whether to allow others to copy their notebooks through the 'Allow copies' section in sharing settings, which is enabled by default. This feature is now available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts who have access to Gemini Notebook.

Take Notes for me for in-person meetings is now available

Google Meet is introducing a new feature to improve in-person meeting collaboration. This feature allows users to actively participate without sacrificing note-taking. A "Take Notes" button is available on both the web and mobile versions of Google Meet. Launching a note-taking session is done directly from the Meet home screen. Once initiated, Gemini will actively capture notes for your in-person meetings. Google Meet now organizes your meeting notes, transcripts, and recordings in your Google Drive

Gemini Alpha is now Gemini Beta

The current Terms of Service continue to be valid, and no new agreements are required. New Google Meet 'Take notes for me' settings for admins and end users

Improvement to in-room problem reporting for Google Meet hardware

Google is enhancing Google Meet hardware by improving how user-reported feedback is handled. Previously generic feedback is now structured and context-aware, making it more actionable for administrators. The user interface for reporting problems has been redesigned with options tailored to in-call, out-of-call, and livestream scenarios. For instance, in-call feedback offers specific issues like "Poor audio or video quality." Out-of-call feedback now includes join-related problems such as "Can’t join Meet call."The Admin console receives significant improvements with new monitoring tools for Google Meet hardware. User feedback is no longer just background telemetry; it's a primary, sortable column in the device list. Two new columns have been added: "Last feedback submitted," showing a timestamp and details, and "Feedback in the last 28 days," counting reports per device. Clicking the timestamp in "Last feedback submitted" opens a side panel with detailed feedback. A new "With feedback in last 7 days" filter helps prioritize devices needing immediate attention. Admins need to ensure the "Let users send feedback to Google" checkbox is enabled. This update is available to all Google Workspace customers with Google Meet hardware devices.
