Google Meet now organizes your meeting notes, transcripts, and recordings in your Google Drive

Google Drive is simplifying access to meeting recordings, transcripts, and notes. These files will now automatically upload to a new "Google Meet" folder in the host's My Drive. Within this folder, files will be organized into subfolders for each individual meeting. Recurring meetings will consolidate all instances into a single shared folder. Attendees will also receive shortcuts to these source files within their own "Google Meet" Drive folders. This new organization replaces the previous system where files were only sent to the host and lacked meeting-specific grouping. Existing "Meet Recordings" folders will be moved and renamed to "Legacy Meet Recordings" within the new structure. Admins need to review any scripts or workflows that depend on old folder names or IDs. End users will benefit from automatically organized meeting artifacts and easier file discovery. The changes will be fully rolled out to Rapid Release domains starting July 22, 2026, and Scheduled Release domains on July 30, 2026.

Gemini Alpha is now Gemini Beta

The Gemini Alpha program is now renamed Gemini Beta to better reflect its current stage of development and feature set. This is purely a branding update and does not affect customer configurations, data privacy, or pricing. All existing administrative controls and opt-in settings remain unchanged. The current Terms of Service continue to be valid, and no new agreements are required. Announcements for new Gemini Beta features will continue on the Google Developer Program forum and the Gemini Beta Help Center. Active Workspace customers must register to access restricted GDP content. Administrators will observe the name change from "Gemini Alpha" to "Gemini Beta" in the Admin console and Help Center over the coming weeks. End users will not see any changes in their settings. The rollout for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains begins on July 22, 2026, with visibility potentially taking up to 15 days. Gemini Beta is available for various Business and Enterprise editions, as well as Education Add-ons.

Redesigned Google Classroom homepage with tailored views based on user’s role

Google Classroom is introducing a redesigned homepage that will be available globally across all editions, providing an easy way for teachers, students, and administrators to find relevant content and tools. The updated interface will transform the homepage into a dynamic hub that surfaces existing information and tools, making it easier for users to access what they need. The new experience is personalized based on a user's role and available features, and will begin rolling out on July 27, 2026. For teachers, the new dashboard will provide actionable insights, track assignment completion, and surface instructional tools and resources. Students will have a dedicated 'Enrolled' view to help them manage their deadlines and coursework, while school leaders and IT administrators will have a centralized view to monitor performance analytics and access administrative settings. Users with multiple roles can easily switch between views by clicking on their role, and the homepage will return to the previous role view when loaded. The new homepage modules are collapsible, allowing users to control their view and focus on what matters most to them. Not all features and views will be available to all users, with eligibility determined by role, feature access, account type, and settings. The rollout will start on July 27, 2026, and will be available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. New Google Meet 'Take notes for me' settings for admins and end users

Google is updating AI note-taking settings for Google Meet to help users capture valuable meeting notes. Admins will now have a third option to enable automatic note-taking for meetings with three or more participants. This new setting will be ON by default for Business Standard and Business Plus plans, and OFF by default for Enterprise and education plans. End users will also gain the ability to configure note-taking specifically for meetings with 3+ guests.These changes will not impact the end user experience until September 21, 2026. Organizations on Business Standard and Business Plus plans should review their settings before this date as the new option is enabled by default. For Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Frontline Plus, and Google AI Pro for Education plans, the setting is OFF by default. Customers in the Gemini Alpha program should verify their existing configurations.The admin setting is rolling out now and is expected to complete by August 3, 2026. The end user setting will begin its gradual rollout on or after September 21, 2026. Users can adjust their note-taking preferences in Meet settings after this date. Expanded language support for Gemini in Google Docs

For existing docs, edits are prompted from the bottom bar. These features are available by default for Admins if Gemini for Workspace in Drive is enabled. End users require Workspace smart features to be enabled. The rollout begins July 15, 2026, for Rapid Release domains and August 1, 2026, for Scheduled Release domains. Now available: group conversations with external collaborators in Google Chat

Clicking the timestamp in "Last feedback submitted" opens a side panel with detailed feedback. A new "With feedback in last 7 days" filter helps prioritize devices needing immediate attention. New calendar sharing permission level and changes to recurring event visibility

A new calendar sharing permission, "Make changes (see private events as free/busy)," is being introduced to Google Calendar. This feature allows users to grant edit access to their calendar while concealing the details of private events. Delegates with this permission will only be able to create, delete, and modify non-private events. Private events will appear as busy blocks to these delegates, with no option to edit or reschedule them. Private events will also be excluded from delegate search results. Additionally, visibility settings for recurring events are changing, with no individual event visibility adjustments possible. Any visibility change will now apply to the entire recurring series. Existing recurring events will adopt the strictest visibility setting within their series. For example, if one event is private, all events in that series will become private. There is no administrator control for this new permission. End users can grant this permission level through Calendar settings. This feature is available to all Google Workspace editions, Workspace Individual, and personal Google accounts. The rollout began on July 7, 2026, and may take longer than 15 days to become fully visible.

Occupancy counting is now enabled for Android-based Neat room hardware, mirroring its availability on ChromeOS devices. This feature allows organizations to understand meeting room utilization patterns. By analyzing occupancy data, companies can make informed decisions about real estate and room design. For example, they can identify if certain rooms are underused due to outdated technology. Administrators can access and download this occupancy data through the Google Admin console as a spreadsheet. The system is designed to not collect or store any personally identifiable information. Data processing for occupancy detection occurs locally on the device, which may mean the camera LED remains off during counting, depending on the hardware vendor. Additionally, an organization filter has been introduced for the CalendarList:list API method. This filter restricts results to display only secondary calendars owned by the organization. This feature helps administrators monitor ownership status in preparation for upcoming secondary calendar data lifecycle changes. When used with the Admin SDK API's users.list method, it provides a comprehensive list of organization-owned secondary calendars. Administrators can verify ownership using the dataOwner field and make necessary adjustments. These features are available to all Google Workspace customers and do not require admin or end-user controls. The transfer API began rolling out on June 18, 2026, and the organization filter on July 6, 2026.

Make Gemini more helpful and relevant to your teaching goals with the Google Classroom app in Gemini

Gemini is being integrated with Google Classroom to enhance educational workflows. This collaboration allows Gemini to understand teaching contexts and tailor its responses accordingly. Educators can leverage this to personalize resources and build upon existing materials. Gemini can provide insights into student progress, create differentiated learning materials, and help draft assignments and posts. Students aged 18 and above can use the Classroom app within Gemini for organization, study planning, and test preparation. When prompted, Gemini will automatically detect and utilize relevant Google Classroom context. Users can also explicitly invoke Classroom context by typing "@Classroom". While Gemini can draft communications, assignments with timelines, and summarize student progress, it cannot directly enter grades or post sensitive content. This feature is initially available in English for users over 18 with eligible Google Workspace accounts. Administrators have control over enabling or disabling this feature for their organizations. The rollout is currently underway and expected to complete by June 18, 2026.
