Google Sheets now natively supports box and whisker charts, a valuable tool for visualizing data distribution. These charts automatically calculate key statistical measures like minimum, quartiles, median, maximum, and mean from raw numeric data. Users have customization options to control quartile calculation, outlier visibility, and mean marker display. This new feature significantly improves Google Sheets' compatibility with Microsoft Excel. Previously, Excel box and whisker charts were lost upon import, but now they are preserved with their data and formatting intact. Charts created in Google Sheets can also be exported back to Excel as editable box and whisker charts. This functionality requires no administrative controls for its deployment. End users can consult the Help Center for guidance on creating and editing these charts. The feature is rolling out to both Rapid and Scheduled Release domains starting in late October and early November 2026. It is available to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts.
