Google Workspace now offers Assured Controls rules for more precise policy enforcement on Google Drive files. Previously, Access Management and Approvals policies were limited to user-level application. Assured Controls allows administrators to create unified rules targeting specific Drive files. This is achieved by leveraging classification labels alongside existing organizational unit and group scoping. Organizations can now apply stricter controls to sensitive data while maintaining streamlined support for less sensitive information. Assured Controls can integrate with Data Loss Prevention (DLP) to automatically label and protect files containing sensitive content. Multinational teams can enforce regional data sovereignty by restricting access based on file content and location. Regulated industries can apply targeted compliance controls for sensitive workloads, requiring explicit approvals for specific actions. This feature is rolling out gradually and is available for specific Google Workspace editions with add-ons. Administrators can find more information in the Help Center.
