Real-time speech translation in Google Meet expands to 63 languages with automatic language detection
Google Meet now offers Gemini-powered speech translation supporting 63 languages across web and mobile devices. This enhanced feature, utilizing Gemini 3.5 Live Translate, simplifies collaboration for global teams by allowing any combination of languages within a single meeting with minimal configuration. Previously, limited language pairs and a single setting for the entire meeting restricted functionality. The new system automatically detects spoken languages and translates them in near real-time for each listener, even with language switching. Participants can now independently enable speech translation through the meeting toolbar, opting out of translations for languages they understand. Synchronized captions will also match the translated audio, ensuring a consistent experience. While available to all participants with eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plans, there are meeting duration limits for some plans. Google Meet hardware users can listen to remote translations, but their own speech won't be translated. This feature is not available for live streams, recordings, CSE meetings, or dial-in calls. End users can enable speech translation during a call, while admins can manage its availability. The rollout begins in late October and early November 2026, with mobile users needing to update their app. Availability extends to various Business, Enterprise, Consumer, and Education plans.
