Google Meet now uses post-quantum cryptography
Google Meet is now using post-quantum cryptography for enhanced security in its calls. This new encryption method is being implemented first for laptop web clients and meeting room hardware. Mobile support for this feature will be available soon. Users will not notice any changes in their experience and can continue using Google Meet as usual. The primary goal of this upgrade is to protect call data from potential threats posed by future quantum computers. While such powerful computers do not exist yet, this measure guards against the "Store Now, Decrypt Later" scenario. Google Meet has previously employed quantum-safe encryption for specific client-side encrypted calls. This update is automatically applied, meaning administrators and end users do not need to take any manual action. The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts. Further information is available in the Google Help Center regarding call and meeting encryption.
