Drive AI Overviews, previously available on the web, are now expanding to the Drive Android and iOS apps. This feature aims to streamline information retrieval by providing instant summaries at the top of search results. Gemini, the AI powering this function, scans multiple documents to offer clear and reliable overviews. Users can now get a quick grasp of information from various files without opening each one. The feature allows for natural language queries, eliminating the need for complex search commands. Gemini intelligently understands the user's intent, whether seeking facts, project summaries, or specific documents. For more detail, users can engage in a deeper conversation with Gemini directly from the summary. Administrators can manage the scope of these AI Overviews by selecting which Google Workspace apps Gemini utilizes. This feature will gradually roll out in English and 28 other languages. It is available by default for administrators with Gemini for Workspace in Drive enabled, and end users require Workspace smart features to be enabled. The rollout began on June 26, 2026, for Rapid and Scheduled Release domains.
