Amazon In Talks To Buy AI Startup Decart For Around $7 Billion

Amazon is reportedly in discussions to acquire AI startup Decart for up to $7 billion. Decart's core offering is its DOS software, designed to significantly accelerate AI model optimization. This software allows developers to tailor AI models for specific processors in a matter of weeks, a substantial improvement over the previous multi-month process. Such a capability would be highly beneficial for Amazon Web Services as it promotes its proprietary Trainium chips. Decart's DOS software optimizes neural networks for AI training and inference workloads on particular hardware. This optimization process enables companies to be more agile, shifting workloads as needed due to changing requirements or chip availability. Beyond its optimization software, Decart is also a developer of world models, including Lucy and Oasis, which create realistic 3D environments. These models have applications in gaming, robotics training, and other simulations. Previously, AI firm Anthropic was reportedly in talks to acquire Decart for around $6 billion but withdrew from the potential deal. The reasons for Anthropic's withdrawal remain undisclosed, and it is possible another interested party could emerge.
