Amazon Is Ending Support For Older Kindles

Amazon is ending Kindle Store access for older Kindle and Kindle Fire devices released before 2012 starting May 20th. These devices will lose the ability to purchase or download new content, including books. Users can still read content already on the devices, but resetting or deregistering will prevent re-registration. The affected devices include the original Kindle from 2007. Amazon will notify affected users about the changes via email. This restriction applies to books on pre-2012 Kindle Fire devices, but other apps and services will not be affected. Amazon is offering a 20% discount and a $20 ebook credit to encourage upgrades to newer Kindles. Existing purchases will remain accessible on newer devices if the user logs in with their current account. The ebook credit is valid until June 20th, 2026. This change impacts users who have used Kindles for many years. This is a significant shift in support for older Kindle devices.
