American Airlines is making in-flight Wi-Fi free—but only for some travelers

American Airlines is introducing free, high-speed Wi-Fi on its flights, starting this month. This service is sponsored by AT&T and is considered essential for today's travelers. The rollout will occur in phases, beginning with narrowbody and regional fleets before expanding to nearly all American Airlines flights. To access this complimentary Wi-Fi, passengers must be members of the airline's loyalty program, AAdvantage. Non-members can sign up for a free AAdvantage account online to qualify for the perk. AAdvantage members will use the aainflight.com portal, logging in with their membership details to connect. If not an AAdvantage member, Wi-Fi will cost around $10 on most flights. Several other U.S. airlines, including Delta and United, also offer free Wi-Fi to their loyalty members. JetBlue is unique in offering free Wi-Fi to all passengers on most of its flights. Wi-Fi for non-members can range from $8 to $35 on various carriers, with monthly passes being a cost-effective option for frequent flyers.
