Apple Gives Up On the Vision Pro After M5 Refresh Flop
Apple has reportedly paused further development of the Vision Pro headset due to poor sales and high return rates. The M5 refresh failed to boost demand despite improvements like a 120Hz refresh rate and extended battery life. The Vision Pro's high price of $3,499 and uncomfortable weight, exceeding 1.3 pounds, were major drawbacks. The device has been unpopular since its launch, with only about 600,000 units sold in total. Apple is re-evaluating its approach to the VR/AR market. The team is now redirected towards developing smart glasses rather than a new Vision Pro model. Currently, Apple has no explicit plans to launch another Vision Pro model in the immediate future. The company plans to sell the M5 model for the foreseeable future. Apple's smart glasses aim to provide augmented reality experiences. The initial smart glasses will offer AI features without an integrated display like Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
