Are LTMs the next LLMs? This new type of AI can do what large-language models can’t

Large language models (LLMs) are popular but a company called Fundamental is focusing on a different type of AI: large tabular models (LTMs). LTMs, unlike LLMs, work with structured data like tables and spreadsheets. This structured data is the main source of information used by many businesses for their operations. Fundamental has created NEXUS, a public LTM model, to help organizations make predictions using this hidden data. This approach addresses the 80% of enterprise data that LLMs can't effectively utilize. Fundamental's CEO, Jeremy Fraenkel, highlights this vast, untapped opportunity. The company has secured $225 million in Series A funding, indicating investor confidence. A significant collaboration with Amazon Web Services gives AWS customers direct access and payment options. Investors are excited about the potential of LTMs, recognizing the gap in the market. Fundamental aims for widespread adoption and anticipates that LTMs will become essential for business decision-making.
