A group of 19 Buddhist monks and their rescue dog companion, Aloka, are nearing the end of their 2,300-mile journey from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C. The monks began their walk on October 26, 2025, and are ahead of schedule despite facing frigid temperatures and snow storms. They are expected to arrive in Washington, D.C. on February 10, 2026, completing their journey in 108 days. The monks are walking to promote world peace and raise awareness of inner peace and mindfulness across America and the world. Their movement has drawn widespread positive attention, with massive crowds gathering to welcome them at each stop along their route. The monks have shared their schedule for the final stretch of their journey, including a visit to the Washington National Cathedral and a meditation retreat. They have attracted a large social media presence, with over 5 million followers across their Facebook and Instagram accounts. The Walk for Peace Facebook page has grown from 575,000 to 2.5 million followers since January 2, 2026, and the Walk for Peace Instagram account has also seen significant growth. The monks' rescue dog, Aloka, has also become a social media sensation, with his Facebook page nearing one million followers. The monks are looking forward to completing their peaceful journey and have invited everyone to join them, saying that their presence would be a blessing and a gift to all.
