Are you invisible to AI? Here’s how to check
The rise of AI has drastically changed how brands appear in search, with traditional search engines becoming less relevant. A new report, the 2026 AI Visibility Index by Lucie Content, reveals that over a quarter of brands are now invisible in AI chatbot recommendations. This is critical because 45% of consumers now use AI for business recommendations, a sharp increase from 6% in the previous year. AI visibility measures how often and accurately chatbots cite or recommend a business. Lucie Content's research involved simulating customer queries across various scenarios.Their findings indicate that over 26% of businesses never appeared in AI responses, and there's little middle ground, with most companies scoring either zero or 100 on retrieval. Surprisingly, there's almost no correlation between high visibility in traditional search engines and appearing in AI recommendations. To address this, Lucie Content launched a free tool for brands to check their AI visibility, focusing on technical readiness. Brands can also repeat the general strategy of simulating customer queries to gauge their standing. Improving AI visibility requires clear, consistent, and factually supported information, along with strong video and imagery. Lucie Content successfully applied these improvements to their own business, demonstrating that the problem is fixable.
