Arteta can take inspiration from George Graham to expunge painful Anfield memories
Arsenal faces a challenging away record at Liverpool, having not won there in thirteen league matches. The Gunners' significant victory in 1989 at Anfield is remembered as one of their greatest achievements. Mikel Arteta, as a player for Everton in 2011, described a feeling of helplessness at Anfield using the Spanish word "bajar." This sensation, akin to a cyclist suddenly struggling, occurred when the game overwhelmed him entirely. Despite this past experience, Mikel Arteta is now manager of Arsenal. Sunday's match against Liverpool, managed by his friend Andoni Iraola, comes after their Carabao Cup exit. Arteta did eventually experience a win at Liverpool as a player with Arsenal in 2012. However, this victory was marred by a serious concussion he sustained. The collision with Jordan Henderson left him with what he described as his greatest fear. This history at Anfield presents a daunting prospect for Arsenal.
