Automate Drive, Gmail, and Google Chat actions with new steps in Workspace Studio
Google Workspace is introducing four new automation steps in Workspace Studio Flows to streamline everyday work. These new capabilities include moving and copying Drive files, sending Chat replies, and replying to emails. These additions empower users with enhanced control over document management and communication across different platforms. Admins will have the ability to disable specific steps and implement user approval for actions involving external data sharing. The "Copy Drive file or folder" step aids in template generation, while "Move Drive file or folder" automates file organization. The "Reply to email" function allows for automated responses within existing email threads for support and tracking. New to "Send a Chat reply" is Markdown support for enhanced text formatting in Google Chat. Admins can enable these steps if Gemini for Google Workspace is permitted, with further management options available. End users can access these features directly within Google Workspace Studio. The rollout for Drive and Chat steps begins September 1, 2026, with Gmail steps following on September 8, 2026. These features are available across various Business, Enterprise, and Education editions, as well as specific add-ons. More information can be found in the Google Workspace Admin Help Center and other provided resources.
