Automatic Room Check-in in Google Meet with Proximity Detection
Google Meet is introducing automatic room check-in for companion mode users on laptops in conference rooms. This feature utilizes ultrasound proximity detection to simplify meeting joining. The system uses your laptop's microphone to detect an ultrasound signal from conference room hardware. This streamlines the process and eliminates unnecessary steps for users. When proximity is detected, the "Use Companion mode" button will be highlighted in the greenroom. This intelligent guidance ensures a seamless and echo-free meeting start. Upon joining via the highlighted button, users are automatically checked into the correct room. Admins can manage this "Proximity Detection" setting in the Admin console. Proximity detection is enabled by default for all Google Meet hardware devices. This feature is available for Google Workspace customers with Meet hardware devices.
