Party chair Christale Spain argues that prioritizing Nevada over South Carolina would disrespect Black voters. Conversely, proponents suggest Nevada's status as a swing state and its growing Latino population make it a more strategic choice. The chairs of both the South Carolina and Nevada Democratic parties are Black women, highlighting the internal demographic tensions. Reverend Al Sharpton has also voiced his opposition to demoting South Carolina. Some Black leftists, like Briahna Joy Gray, criticize the uproar, stating Democrats take Black votes for granted. They believe Latino voters are more actively courted as swing voters. Other states, like New Mexico and Virginia, are also vying for an early primary position. The DNC may delay a final decision until after the midterms.
