Bose SoundTouch Home Theater Systems Regress Into Dumb Speakers
Bose plans to discontinue support for its SoundTouch Wi-Fi speakers and soundbars starting February 18, 2026. This action will disable cloud-based features managed through the SoundTouch app, including music service integration and multi-room audio syncing. Users will lose the ability to modify or use some saved presets, and Bose will cease providing security updates for the devices. Despite the changes, the speakers will still function with AUX, HDMI, and Bluetooth connections. Bose attributes this decision to technological evolution and the inability to sustain the cloud infrastructure. Customers are offered a trade-in credit of up to $200 towards newer Bose products. The SoundTouch product line was introduced in 2013, making it an older generation of technology according to Bose. Bluetooth connectivity will still function, but may result in greater latency compared to Wi-Fi. The company claims it intends to focus on modern technologies for new customer listening experiences. The affected speakers are set to retain basic functionality, albeit with limitations.
