Brad Karp, Chairman Of Top Law Firm Paul Weiss, Resigns Over Epstein Ties

Brad Karp, chairman of Paul Weiss, resigned abruptly after emails revealed his close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Karp's resignation followed the public release of embarrassing emails that created a distraction and were not in the firm's best interest. The law firm, representing major corporations, boasts over 1,200 lawyers and a commitment to pro bono work. Emails showed Karp regularly interacted with Epstein, even providing legal advice during the underage sex-trafficking scandal. Their relationship stemmed from legal work for billionaire Leon Black, leading to social events and job-seeking favors. Karp described a dinner at Epstein's mansion as unforgettable, highlighting Epstein's hosting skills. His actions caused embarrassment within the firm, especially regarding Epstein's suggestion of surveillance. Karp initially expressed regret for his interactions, but the situation forced his exit. Scott Barshay will replace Karp as chairman. Paul Weiss had previously settled with the White House to avoid restrictions on representing clients.
