Broadcom’s VMware license changes as they relate to Google Cloud VMware Engine

Broadcom is shifting to a mandatory "bring your own" subscription model for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) for hyperscalers, starting November 1, 2025. This change affects Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) customers, who will need to directly acquire portable VCF subscriptions from Broadcom instead of relying on VCF-included GCVE subscriptions. Google Cloud already offers a BYOL option for GCVE, being the first hyperscaler to do so. New committed use discounts (CUDs) purchased after October 15, 2025, will require separate VCF licenses from Broadcom and the BYOL option of GCVE from Google Cloud. Google Cloud provides resources to assist customers in adapting to these changes. These resources include information on GCVE product details and pricing, specifically BYOL options and CUDs. Customers are encouraged to engage with their Google Cloud account teams to assess the impact and plan the transition. Google Cloud aims to facilitate a seamless transition for affected users. The changes impact how VMware licenses are obtained and managed within the Google Cloud environment. Customers should proactively plan for these licensing updates to minimize disruption.
