California Man Accused Of Routing More Than $300 Million In Restricted Servers To China

Greg Lui, CEO of Earthmade Computer Inc., was arrested and indicted on federal charges for allegedly orchestrating a scheme to illegally export over $300 million in restricted computer servers and GPUs to China. The conspiracy, which began in October 2023, involved routing high-end Nvidia-powered servers from U.S. manufacturers through Malaysia and Singapore. Earthmade received significant payments, including over $80 million and $96 million from two Malaysian companies, one of which was primarily a lumber company.Lui allegedly placed orders for hundreds of H100 GPU-equipped servers, with detailed transactions from 2024 showing shipments from California to Kuala Lumpur and then onward to China. For instance, 27 servers were transshipped to a Chinese purchaser, and 92 more were flown to Hong Kong with a Chinese industrial company listed as the consignee. He also allegedly used a U.S. front company and false documents, including a purchased identity, to facilitate these illicit exports.Prosecutors claim Lui misrepresented the buyers; for one large order, he falsely claimed another City of Industry company, Topmost, was the purchaser. The indictment suggests a co-conspirator, acting as CTO of the Malaysian lumber company, was actually an international broker involved in incorporating Topmost. The FBI's Counterintelligence and Espionage Division states that Lui allegedly sold hundreds of millions of dollars worth of this technology to the Chinese government. Nvidia has affirmed its cooperation with law enforcement to combat smuggling. If convicted, Lui faces substantial prison sentences for conspiracy to violate export-control laws, outbound smuggling, and money laundering.
