California Will Stop Using Coal as a Power Source Next Month
California is about to cease receiving electricity from the Intermountain Power Plant in Utah, marking the effective end of its use of coal. This shift reflects a broader national trend, as the U.S. has significantly reduced its reliance on coal-fired power plants since 2007. California's transition has been even more pronounced, with coal providing only a small percentage of its electricity in 2024. Despite previous power shortage concerns, improvements in energy storage technology have allowed for this switch without disruptions.
