CHOPped: Seattle Found Liable For $30 Million Over Death During "Summer Of Love"

Protesters in Minneapolis are erecting barricades, mirroring the CHOP experience in Seattle during the "Summer of Love" in 2020. This echoes the creation of an autonomous zone, known as CHOP, which was initially called CHAZ. Seattle is now facing legal repercussions, as a jury recently ruled against the city for negligence related to the death of Antonio Mays Jr. The city abandoned the SPD East Precinct and allowed the CHOP to control the area. Legal analysis warned of potential liability for Seattle's failure to govern effectively. Businesses, like Molly Moon's, had previously sued the city over the damages related to the zone. Initially supportive, Democratic politicians later distanced themselves due to escalating crime and destruction. The Mays family, including former officials, sued the city and was awarded over $30 million. The police were unable to respond for hours, ultimately corrupting the crime scene, after Mays Jr. was shot.
