Cloud CISO Perspectives: New Gemini Notebook can help CISOs and policymakers prepare for PQC
Google Cloud has launched a public Gemini Notebook to help CISOs and executives prepare for post-quantum cryptography (PQC). This tool consolidates Google's PQC research, engineering insights, and migration advice into an accessible format. Quantum computing is advancing rapidly, making current encryption vulnerable to future attacks like "store-now-decrypt-later." Google estimates that breaking common encryption schemes would require a significant number of quantum computer components. The company plans to transition to PQC by 2029 and urges other organizations to do the same. The Gemini Notebook offers an audio overview, flashcards, and answers to specific questions about PQC. CISOs are advised to identify vulnerable cryptography, prioritize risks, and build crypto-agility into their plans. Google is already deploying PQC in products like Chrome and Android and is a co-founder of the Post-Quantum Cryptography Alliance. Organizations can create their own PQC notebooks by curating trusted sources and using neutral prompts. The article also highlights recent security updates and threat intelligence, including vulnerability trends in the AI era and exploitation of network appliances. Podcasts from Google Cloud discuss AI in browser patching and vulnerability research.
