Google Meet now allows users to connect to nearby conference room hardware. This is achieved by entering a five-character room code displayed on the hardware. This feature serves as a manual fallback when proximity-based detection, like ultrasound, is unavailable. Users will find this option on their personal device’s pre-call screen. Admins can manage this feature, and it is enabled by default for both administrators and end users. The update ensures a reliable connection method for joining meetings on Google Meet hardware. This functionality will be available to all Google Workspace customers with compatible hardware. The rollout is gradual, starting on September 15, 2026.
