Connect to Google Meet hardware with room codes now in Early Preview
Google Meet now allows users to connect to nearby conference room hardware using a five-character room code. This new "Connect Room" feature offers a manual fallback when automatic proximity-based detection fails. Users will find a "Connect with room code" button on their pre-call screen to enter the alphanumeric code shown on the hardware. This ensures meeting accessibility for private or ad-hoc sessions where automated detection might be unreliable. To maintain security, users must physically confirm their presence on the room hardware after entering the code. The room code refreshes periodically to prevent unauthorized connections. For IT administrators, this feature reduces troubleshooting for rooms with challenging acoustics or restricted proximity settings. It streamlines the connection process, allowing employees to focus more on collaboration. Currently, this feature is available to users on Rapid Release domains connecting to devices in Early Preview. A broader rollout will be announced later.
