Starting August 31, 2026, Google Meet hardware touch controllers will allow direct management of the "Take notes for me" feature. This update eliminates the need for users to join meetings in Companion mode on a laptop to control Gemini note-taking. A dedicated badge on the touch controller will clearly indicate if Gemini is actively taking notes. Users will be able to easily toggle the note-taking feature between active and inactive states. The update also includes an "off-the-record" capability, allowing participants to pause note-taking for sensitive discussions. They can then resume note-taking with a simple tap of a button. This functionality is confined to meetings where "Take notes for me" is already available. Administrators need to ensure the feature is enabled for their organization on Google Meet hardware. End users can initiate or stop note-taking by tapping the icon on the touch controller. Various Google Workspace editions, including Business Standard/Plus and Enterprise Standard/Plus, will support this feature. Additionally, specific consumer and education plans will also have access.
