Control whether your users can have temporary chats and delete conversations in the Gemini app

Google is introducing two new administrator controls for the Gemini app to enhance user activity management. Administrators can now configure options for temporary chats and conversation deletion. Temporary chats enable users to conduct conversations that are not permanently stored. Conversation deletion allows users to remove individual chats or their entire history. These settings offer organizations more data management flexibility and empower users with control over their Gemini experience. It is important to note that Google Vault retention rules will always take precedence. The new administrator controls will be enabled by default and can be adjusted at domain, OU, or group levels. End users can utilize these features directly within the Gemini app if enabled by their administrator. The rollout for administrator controls began on June 15, 2026, and end-user visibility started on June 21, 2026. These features are now available to all Google Workspace customers.
