Google Workspace is expanding the feature of persistent custom instructions for Gemini. Previously available in Google Docs, this functionality is now supported in Gemini in Drive, Gemini in Chat, and the Gemini side panel across Slides, Sheets, and Gmail. These custom instructions allow users to personalize their interactions with Gemini by setting stylistic and formatting preferences. This enables Gemini to adapt to individual needs and tones without constant repetition, saving time and ensuring consistency. Users can manage and view all their saved instructions within the Personalization Settings tab. These instructions are then applied to personalize Gemini's responses across all supported Workspace applications. There are no specific admin controls for this feature. End users can set these instructions by interacting with Gemini in the supported surfaces or through the Settings menu. The feature began a gradual rollout on September 2, 2026, and will be fully visible within 15 days. Its availability extends to all Google Workspace customers who have access to the respective Gemini features. More information can be found in the Google Help Center.
