Cyclospora outbreak map: Don’t eat shredded lettuce at Taco Bell in these states, CDC warns
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a warning regarding a Cyclospora outbreak impacting five states. This outbreak has sickened 1,644 individuals, with 94 requiring hospitalization. The CDC is advising consumers to avoid shredded iceberg lettuce specifically at Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. This recommendation stems from an investigation that identified a single supplier of shredded iceberg lettuce from Mexico as the likely source. Taco Bell has committed to removing lettuce from this supplier nationwide and is replacing it promptly in affected states. While Taco Bell is taking voluntary action, the CDC notes that not all locations in these states received lettuce from the identified supplier. The Food and Drug Administration is continuing to investigate any remaining potentially contaminated product. Cyclosporiasis symptoms include watery diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, cramping, bloating, gas, nausea, and fatigue. Less common symptoms can mimic the flu, with vomiting, body aches, headache, and fever.
