Data regions are essential for organizations to comply with various regulations by controlling where data resides and is processed geographically. Extending these controls to Apps Script enables secure enterprise workflow automation for regulated industries and the public sector. When a data regions policy is applied, Apps Script stores project files, configurations, and metadata within the designated region. Script executions and related runtime operations also take place within the selected geographic boundary. However, some non-regionalized Apps Script services will be disabled starting September 2026 for organizations using specific advanced settings. Administrators can manage these data region policies for Apps Script through the Admin console under Data > Compliance > Data Regions. Existing organizational data location policies are automatically applied to Apps Script. End users do not have direct control; script behavior follows administrator-assigned policies. This feature is available now for Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. Availability varies by Google Workspace edition, with some editions offering only in-region data storage and others both storage and processing.
