Developer Abandons 'PS5 Linux' Project After Sony Patches AI-Discovered Exploit
Andy Nguyen announced he is stopping all work on PS5 Linux, including PS5 Pro support planned for 2027. He cited his frustration with the current state of the PS5 hacking scene, which he described as being filled with inexperienced individuals using AI. Specifically, he was upset that "slop kiddies" found a critical hypervisor bug he had also discovered and reported it to Sony. Nguyen had asked them to wait until GTA 6's release, but they disclosed it almost immediately. The PS5 Linux project initially allowed users to run Steam games and emulators by exploiting previously patched firmware vulnerabilities. A separate individual claimed to have found the same bug using AI and, anticipating others would follow, reported it on HackerOne. Despite Nguyen's departure, the GitHub repositories remain active for community contributions. However, any work on PS5 Pro support would need to start from scratch as Nguyen's progress was not committed. While Nguyen's exit is a setback, other contributors have demonstrated the ability to continue the loader's development independently.
